ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

SHOWCASE

Black C Art Gallery’s Artist-in-Residence Program is open to innovative artists to create new works in various disciplines.

 

Residencies include use of studio space, opportunities to showcase work and may provide housing and a stipend. 

MATTIA IMPONENTI
Artist in Residence

Mattia earned a Doctorate in Cello Performance with a focus on Education, conducting a systematic review on observational learning in private instruction and public classrooms for stringed instruments.

 

Inspired by his experiences teaching and giving masterclasses, he is currently based in Gainesville, where he serves as an Adjunct Lecturer for the cello studio at the University of Florida for Fall 2023. He also performs as a section cellist with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra and the Gainesville Orchestra.

ALEX KANTCHEV
Artist in Residence

Alex has trained with Dr. Kevin Hampton of the Music Academy of Southeast Missouri University and Dr. Yuko Kato of Southern Illinois University.

 

Currently, he’s a freshman at the University of Florida's School of Music and studying piano performance under the guidance of Dr. Jasmin Arakawa. He has also competed in prestigious piano competitions such as MMTA and MTNA.

Piano CONCERT
December - 2024

Black C Art presented pianist Alex Kantchev in concert, featuring works by Griffes, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Scriabin, and Liszt.

Alex, our artist-in-residence, returned after captivating audiences in September 2024. A freshman at UF’s School of Music, he studies under Dr. Jasmin Arakawa and has competed in prestigious competitions, including MMTA and MTNA.

CELLO CONCERT
November - 2024

Black C Art presented cellist Mattia Imponenti in concert, featuring:

J.S. Bach Suite No. 1 in G major

Britten’s Third Suite for Cello, Op. 87

Mattia, known for collaborations with Black C Art and Dance Alive, performed solo and with artist/dancer Ani Collier.

A Doctor of Cello Performance and Adjunct Lecturer at UF, Mattia also plays with the Ocala and Gainesville Orchestras, specializing in music education research.

Piano CONCERT
September - 2024

Black C Art presented a special piano recital by Alex Kantchev, our new artist-in-residence at the time.
