"Ever wonder what happens when you fall down a rabbit hole?
Ask Alice (IN WONDERLAND).
As one plops down into this surreal and anthropomorphic world, the journey becomes fantastical.
Ever wonder what might be for dinner? I will show you and tell you all about it. "
Warhol Caldwell
The ballet shoes are her miracle of silence. The silence begins the moment she ties the pointe shoe laces upon her eager feet. And then she surrenders her heart and soul. The music is her heart and the silence is her soul. She begins to float away into a beautiful space. She moves. She jumps. She twirls. She spins. She becomes one with the music and has given herself to the moment. Just her, her pointe shoes, the music … . This complete surrender bathes her into a sort of euphoria. She exists in her own world.

SYNCHRONICITY 2000-2016-2018-2024 Sara Morsey Synchronicity is what happens when seemingly unrelated events coincide in improbable ways that have some sort of significance for you.
The particular journey on display here at Black C Gallery in 2024, began for me in 2000. I was gifted a beautiful 36” square black canvas. It was so beautiful I was afraid to paint on it. Finally, I managed to paint something I never really liked, but it filled the canvas. I called it The Jungle, and left it in my art room for years. Fast forward to 2018. I was looking at that big unloved painting and in a fit of who knows what, I painted it over, part of it, and created something even worse? I called it WHEN THE WORLD WENT SIDEWAYS. Meanwhile, in 2016, an ocean away, one of my favorite British playwrights, Caryl Churchill, created a new play which she called ESCAPED ALONE. Churchill, now 86, is one of the UK’s most influential and significant contemporary dramatists. She has written more than 30 plays, many dealing with abuse of power. Oddly enough, in 2020, the world DID seem to go sideways and my painting seemed to illustrate Churchill’s dour text. But I didn’t know it yet. I am about to go into rehearsal for this play, here in America eight years after it was written. The text in my “exhibit” comes from this play. My character speaks this text. In 2024, trying to get back to painting, I painted the small painting that now warily watches from above. Synchronicity!
Sara Morsey's Statement
"For my Show-N-Tell, I chose Nothing. On 2016, I “instilled” a sculpture of Nothing in the Downtown Bo Diddley Plaza. Nothing got a proclamation from the City of Alachua, and even Gainesville’s Mayor presented me with Nothing in return. Secretly, I was making a short film of Nothing. As a film, Nothing received a 9 out of 10 from Indie Reviewer, FilmThreat. Years later, an artist from Italy made a sculpture of Nothing and sold it for $18,000. I was convinced he stole my idea, so I hired an Italian attorney and threatened to sue him for Nothing. This became one of the top 10 international art stories of 2021. It was even on Late Night with Steven Colbert. For my piece, I’m presenting a 1/16 scale model replica of Nothing. You may take photos of Nothing, but please don’t touch Nothing. I have always believed that Nothing matters, and all I ever wanted was credit for Nothing."
