Ani Collier's Film to be Exhibited at the Mint Museum

Gendered: An Inclusive Art Show, at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina. Gendered is a national juried group exhibition featuring less than twenty artists from across the United States, each of whom have explored the intersectionalities of gender, class, race, and sexuality in their work. Gendered is the second annual exhibition hosted and curated by the Young Affiliates of the Mint, which is the longest running young professional group and the premier social arts organization for young professionals in Charlotte, North Carolina. Gendered’s distinguished panel of jurors include Kelli Connell, Ryan James Caruthers, John Edmonds, and Carla Hanzal. Gendered will take place at the Mint Museum’s Uptown location from June 16 to July 21, 2017.


Collier’s film, And now, was selected by the exhibition’s panel of jurors from over a thousand submissions. And now was produced in 2008, and is Collier’s depiction of joie de vivre, or a life well lived. Collier explains the film, saying, “And now is about living life to the fullest, so that when the viewer looks back, she has no regrets. The protagonist falls throughout the film just as one does in real life. When she falls, she simply gets up and tries again. Hopefully everyone’s life has been filled with fun, pink, fur, humor, and second chances – just like the main character in the film.”


An internationally-renowned institution, The Mint Museum is dedicated to collecting, conserving, exhibiting, inspiring, publishing and protecting important works of art and design from all over the global art community. The Mint Museum Uptown, where Gendered will be exhibited, houses the highlyregarded Mint Museum of Craft + Design, as well as outstanding collections of American, Modern + Contemporary, and European art.


The opening for Gendered will be on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 6:00 to 10:00pm at the Mint Museum’s Uptown location at 500 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
